Green in public space is a necessity but it is also expensive for municipalities to maintain. Functional green it is called, I call it ‘weesgroen’ or orphaned green.
In my hometown Rotterdam artist Olivier Scheffer is active as ‘wildsnoeier’ or wild pruner. He lends the city council a hand by taking orphaned green under his wing. He calls his quirky interventions pieces, just like graffiti artists do.

I particularly like this one because the intervention makes the orphaned bushes stand out; suddenly they belong together, like a family.
